DeMMis....(from the double humbed camel days) It is probably the same for wheat as it is for corn. 1 out of 3 years has to be planted.

I have a farm that I haven't been able to plant for 2 consecutive years....actually took PP and a partial payment in one of the three preceeding years and planted sunflowers (bad idea). I was told I had to plant a crop in 2010 there...it wouldn't qualify.

After these rains, it went underwater again Friday.....am glad I don't have to go get that harvested this year...the rest of it will be bad enough.

Well, this is Kansass, so we could be in shorts and
no shirts by next week--have my doubts, snow and temp
records set in Nebraska--from back to 1987---that must
be the year that Al Gore lost his virginity.

Good Sunday Moring ! Boy do we have frost this moring!
We end'd up with about 2 inchs total ,water sitting pretty
good on the end rows where we pack'd it in with the cart
bet you could land a 747 on them . I've got 90 on gravel
so may spend today moving to that farm and maybe try it
tomorrow , Rain maybe Wedsday, better chance on Thursday,
well blank me to tears ! LOL
Yesterday , My brother in law ,wife and I went over to the
casino , about 10 miles west , cut there threw the country, even
though it was only 10 miles ,it was just unbeliveable that
there was nothing done .
BTW ,I play'd like I farm , came out a few dollars ahead, LMAO
O' ya ,you should have seen thoses gals working there !
They had on less than db's pics !!!
If Sara was there ,I would bet they would get a letter to !
Anyway the best way to tell you how little they had on
was like putting on 500 bu.of 32 % corn on a 300 bu.truck!!!!!
But lucky for them , I was there In case anything spill'd
out ,LMAO Have good one , Ken

Might want to check the forecast. Predicting snow of 3 to 6 inches for South Dakota. Continued cloudy weather for most of the country.

Colder than a "well diggers a$$), Coldest on Record in DSM. Cattle feeders are chopping corn this morning, saw one guy combining corn on river bottom. Only got a half inch of rain last week and a dusting of snow on Saturday. Glad to see this growing season come to an end. FSA finally decided to approve my prevented planting acres, (like i really care I am no longer in their programs) had to laugh when they said I had to control the weeds, what a joke, I think the freeze took care of those. Watch those tree huggers start crying, when I start moldboard plowing every acre before freeze up. Adios Amigos. John

Sunny and 35 here right now. Snow on the way for tomorrow, looks like the heaviest will stay just to the west of us. But still calling for 1-3 inches, and rain snow mix Tues. and again Thurs., then maybe warm up to 50 by next Sunday. Fields are going to get sloppy. Drove to the other side of the county Fri. for football game, very few acres of beans combined. Had a low of 32 today and 23 yesterday, most of the corn had black layered around here, but we will still have low test weight since we went from 8/25 t0 9/25 without any rain.

Indian summer is on the way right?

Came back from by GDaughter's b-day part Saturday near St. Louis. corn between here and there (90 miles) looked like end of July...no sign of brown leaves....silks still on there and tassles intact...beans totally green....flood waters everywhere in low ground...it's a muddy fricking mess.

got home and did the tour....nothing much changed except for the mud. About 1/3 of my corn is still in full dent, (just black layered) and plants have all their color....green as a gourd...ears sticking out of the end of shucks straight up like a water pitcher gathering the rain....some sprouting on the ear tips...that should get alot worse once the warm-up starts.

I went out and plugged in the trolling motor charger and got the boat ready to go fish....there isn't any possible way we're doing anything this week...maybe next...more rain forcast for Tue-Thurs.

I really think this whole harvest is going to get pretty ugly....I'm amazed at the calm right now.....nobody seems to be too overly concerned about it....this corn will not dry down before it freezes down...and my guess is it will then go down.

Your Balloon knots will be puckering soon.

dairyfarmer - lol. Indian Summer! Ummmmm. I hope so, I cannot handle this cold weather. There is going to be a lot of light test weight corn, and there are going to be some huge drying costs.

We had a premature freeze in the 80's, and i burned up a 10,000 bushel drying bin trying to dry the stuff down; we emptied about 6,000 bu. on the ground, fire department got the fire put out, we refilled the bin with what was on the ground, went back to that farm the next day, the bin had reignited during the night and destroyed all the grain and the bin.

So we had to haul grain to another drier we had on a farm about 5 miles away. Lucky gas prices are low, of course if you hauil it to the coop I am sure they will hand you the db superlube before you start delivering the grain. Might be smarter to not harvest it and take the Federal Crop payment.

Even after chaffy corn is dried, there may be problems, and it may only grade out "sample grade", and you end up getting a huge dock. Adios Amigo. John

6weeks from today is November 22nd. I think we will be done. No one knows the future and no one can predict the weather, but I think we can do it. Guess we'll refer to that as the target completion date.
