Yesterday my wife and kids/grands went to Urich to visit family. They said that everything was rolling that could possibly be going and anything that could carry a load of grain was on the roads. There are still so green beans but there was a hard frost that stopped the growth Saturday night. Things look good until tomorrow night and Wednesday....more rain.....

How late was this planted, and how many times was it under water? Or is 242 the number of reps you did on your morning exercise program?

[br]Good Morning.

Are we having fun yet? Sunday: Mud hog quits on combine = stuck with full hopper in middle of field. Corn 28%. Stirrator motor goes out just after door is covered with corn. Hydraulic hose breaks on auger wagon that opens gate to auger with full load on. Just a couple of reasons why I LOVE FARMING. Git-R Done! Be Safe.

Are we having fun yet? Yessireeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Harvest days.

1) chopper threw 1 set of swinging knives that had just been turned and torqued by a JD technician. Cracked around the bolts on one side.

2) header control is eratic and the ground is sticky- bad combination.

3) fuel tank is leaking around the guage. The darn thing is below the fuel when you put the last 50 gallons in the L shaped tank.

4) Ran about 1/4 mile across the end of a farm to get 'er opened up and see what the SB tested. Head must have hit something as the new sickle had the biggest buckle in it that I have ever seen. I also found that the springy piece that supports the sickle was sprung. Walked the area 3 times and never found anything that would buckle the sickle in this way. I was running as slow as I ever run as I was just cutting a sample.

5) After fixing this problem and waiting for the beans to dry, I went back to the field Sunday just in case and again cut a sample. Heard a metal against metal rubbing sound. The pot metal piece that supports the platform auger was sheared. The nearest one was 80 miles from home. Got it. Got 'er on. Cut all afternoon till 9;30.

6) Just 3 things on the list to check out this morning. Oh did I mention one of them is that the fuel is again seeping when the tank is full?????????

Sure glad I traded for a more recent combine (2004- 1500 engine hours) so I would have less down time.

Hope I have the combine gremlins "runned oft" by now so I can get 'er done.

Good news- I haven't started drying in the stirring bin corn sauna yet. We just had the best drying day of the fall. Beans were testing about 13% after 4PM.

STAY SAFE!!!!!!!!!!

I can top that. Yesterday evening the beans were finally dry, good beans in the 50+ range, and as I was opening up a field and backed up a little to straigten on the corner I heard a bang and I found myself staring up at the sky. One half of the back axle on my CIH 2166 had broken, far from the road. Thought I would deal with it in the morning but rain moving through!

jabbrr,
Don't fill the damned fuel tank clear full--give you a
reason to check for other problems when you run out just
when you really need to get done.
Oh, yeh, DRIVE where you hit that ???---tires always find
those things--NOT with a 4 wheeleer--pick-up--get the most
out of the bang.
westmo--all I can say is damn luck anyway.

We did get some beans cut again yesterday---ran until
they were NOT coming in real good---70% humidity at the
house---and running a JD--anyone who eveer ran a JD knows
it was designed for DRY conditions.
With all the problems mentioned, I won't mention any of
mine---other than got in the semi to head home, after parking it
in the field after dark with lights----NO friggin head
lights---called a neighbor to take me home--(Marilyn
had a quilters meeting--we have priorities)--
FOGGY this morning--doesn't look good with the
forecast...

Stay safe
morning--

Cutting beans about 1/2 mile from the bins so we are using wagons. It is funny, when dad gets tied, he just stops bringing me wagons. I ran out of wagons at 8:30PM. I will be cutting at 10AM this morning..Gotta go..Can't keep that RED pile of GOLD waiting!

Life is good!
