Around 30 acres left to cut. Injection pump trouble on the combine, pretty nasty leak, low on power, lots of dust, turned on the end and instead of dust blowing past there was alot of blue smoke. No flames but a lot of smoldering. Heart missed a couple of beats. Increased the high idle speed, helped with the power but the beans got tough around 11:00 last night and had to quit. Hope to finish but cloudy and a lot of green on the radar. Afraid they will stay tough, might have to find another screw on that pump to turn on a little.
Cargill are up to their same old standards. Have a couple of loads of non GMO to go in Oct. They can't take them, their non GMO bin needs work and they can't get a barge. They said MAYBE they can take them next week. Premium for Oct is $.80. Premium for Nov is $1.80. How much you want to bet they will call for them on Oct 31. Now to get the premium we have to store them. Bins are full, are going to dump them in a barn, the only way to get them out is a scoop shovel. Can't leave them in wagons, who knows when they will call plus we need the wagons to shell corn. That non GMO premium is nice but Cargill can just make you pull your hair out trying to deal with them. You would have thought they could have gotten that bin ready BEFORE harvest.

quote: Originally posted by db51 [br]I was rolling today....got the Green POS back together, final drive replaced as well as the blower fans and shafts....hooked up the platform to cut beans - made two passes and the overheat engine light comes on.....water low, no leaks...looks like the water pump went out.....Oh...and get this...JD's water pump weep hole doesn't run down the front of the engine...it goes back into the fricking engine! ***.....you've got to be kidding me, right? Nope...that's the way it is....my guess is so they can rebuild the engine when the oil breaks down from the water in it.....didn't see any visible water on dipstick, but did notice light smoke or steam, more than usual coming from the vent tube.....
Cut 4.5 acres after adding some antifreeze, unhooked the platform and drove the POS back to the dealer.
Good news the beans over the scale went 87.4 bu.acre. Asgrow 4103 planted @ 295K (accidently) fungicide applied.....By the time I get done, it will take 30 bu/acre to keep the POS going till harvest is over.
Looking at the radar, looks like maybe a week or more till we get back at it....more than likely. mud.
db51: LMAO. Thanx for the conciliatory remarks. I think they are all a POS whether red or green. The weep hole deal on your JD is just frickin' incredible. lol.
A long time ago I went to an auction to try to steal a CIH 1083 corn head. Some fool ran it up to $17,500. Turns out it was one of my neighbors who I had sold my old 883 to years ago when the drought started. lol. Long story short...I bought it back from him for $2500. Needless to say...I have put way more than that into it already. lol. BUTTTTT...it was in good shape when I sold it to him!!!!! lol. Rained out...IN THE DESERT!!!!!! Good luck. Stay safe amigo. |

81 acres cut yesterday. Finished at midnight. Leaving the house now. Beans fell to 47 bushels per acre. It could be a lot worse.
Life is good! |

| Down here in the land where our crops don't count, it has rained again all night long. We have had 3 combining days in 2 and a half weeks. I have cut 90 acres of soybeans period. In the narrow river valley I farm in(1 mile wide at the widest point) that 90 acre field is the only field that has seen a combine for 6 miles, a record I believe for the 22nd of October. The soybeans are much better than average, if we can ever get them cut. Alot of the corn is still over 20%, many of the soybeans are not yet ripe. |

Since I can't do anything except watch the rain come down... IN THE DESERT!!!!...I've got a funny story to tell you guys. I have a little AL47 grain cart that I put 12" tip tops on for 550 bu. I have 275bu bin extenders on my 1680 for 275 bu. 2 dumps fills the grain cart. 2 grain carts fill the semi. Anyway...I have a BTO buddy with a spare Kinze 1050 grain cart that I can use. This was going to be the cat's meow. Fill the semis every time with one dump.
Well...with all this rain...all I can pull is the little grain cart with one 275 bu dump. Thank God I have a light 4WD tractor (1987 Steiger Puma 1000 Row Crop) to pull it with. 1062A of corn to cut and only 68A done. lol. It's going to be a long harvest. lol. At least it's not down, itchy bindweed on a stick in the snow. lol. Last year I cut 700A SB in 6" of unseasonal rain. I thought we were back to normal, but the only thing normal in NW KS is that nothing is normal. lol. |

quote: Originally posted by Faust100F [br]db - it is all those high yields that are ruining your equipment, you need to get back down to 40 bu. beans and 100 bu. corn. Oh! So you have taken your machine to the "parts replacers", be sure to smile when they bend you over the counter.
It is raining here, just sitting here in the "cat bird seat", started the combine moved it, sitting here with the semi tractor trailer ready to load. Need to put in a few plastic reel tines, backed into the head side panel of a 925 head with my pickup put a dent it.
Water pump went out of my 3/4 Ton PU. Called Tripple dipple AAAAAA to pick it up and haul it to town to shop. Had one day of indian summer (monday), the way things are going, might not get started taking out beans until freeze up. Need a week of dry Sunny weather. Water standing on river bottoms. Adios Amigo. John
faust: I'm thinking that was our ONLY day of indian summer. Cloudy, 40 drgrees, damp and windy today.

| 48 - I thought you rented all most of your ground out this year. Now you're telling me you have 1062 corn left??? What's with that....or are you jus tmaking that up so you won't feel guilty about not loading the RED POS up to help me out since my GREEN POS is on life support as I write this.....not that it makes any difference, cause the rain is just getting ramped up. |

db51: I only have 277A of corn, but I am custom cutting my Lessee's corn. If you're not done by the time I get done... if ever...lol...I will borrow my custom cutting buddy's combine low bed trailer and haul this red POS to your place and hep ya out...but this red POS will require lots of Super Lube. lol. It's been 8 years since I picked...or as you Corn Belt guys say...shelled corn. I kept opening the concaves up cuz I was breaking cobs in half. Then...I remembered that I put a chopper on this red POS to chop up SB vines. lol. And...yes...I have it all the way open. lol. |

| dairyfarmn - I think you are right, I really enjoyed last Sunday and Monday, it was what normal weather used to be here in Ioway. Met with my crop insurance agent this morning, he said he has been getting calls from clients in Arkansas and Texas who have had ten inches of rain, and they are putting tracks on their combines. The problem is the corn and rice are shooting sprouts, and the beans are going down. I do not think anything is going to move here in Gods Country for another week. Might be a good time for me to take my little trip to South Dakota to get out of this mess down here. I am not going into muddy fields, it is just going to have to dry out our freeze up. Adios Amigo. John. |

rowdy--I emptied just over an inch this morning form the 2 days of mist and showers---has continued to be misty here all day--NO snow--that crap has to melt, or freeze solid this time of year---and if it freezes solid, it will be around to slide on all winter
ECI--we took a little get'a way today---figure since I needed a hair cut a week ago, but didn't have the time watching all the neighbors tearing things up, I was waiting for good weather anyway--got a hair cut today---then headed north---saw conventional wheat is planted and looks nice---some soybeans harvested, NO corn to speak of, and NO milo harvested.[:
3020---I believe it was you--said you had a nasty injector pump leak----hopefully---it is the o-ring below the adaptor to the fuel line---just blow it super clean---super lube won't do the trick there---ours was a simple fix a couple years ago--- injector lines can also so that to you--not knowing which series, but hope it is an easy fix---
When I went south Tuesday, the sun greated me, thought by going north today, I could cause the same thing to happen- well, it didn't---drove less than one (1) mile without wipers on---intervals to constant slow---
Just looked at radar---looks like the eye is developing about 50 miles east of us---have to call mother in law and ask her if she thinks she is the center of the weather pattern today---either that or the vultures see she isn't moving and checking out how long it will be until supper time---
There won't be much done in the fields here until Monday, by my estimates now---time to go pick on the z-'s, better than some things I can still get in trouble for attempting |
