Finished beans yesterday afternoon, switched everything over to get ready for corn. I woke up at 4 AM this morn, coughing and sneezing bean dust. hmmm was not raining yet, so I was ready to go get some corn, but the Mr. was still sleeping. Opened up the 40 next to the house. Feeder house plugged up, cleared it, then heard an awful racket. Chain had come off, put it back on, hoping to at least finish taking off the ends. I was riding in the buddy seat and after we turned saw something red. OOOOOPPS One smashed shield!! Yet another trip to the Case dealer, for chain and sprocket. Started raining, so we will have to wait till it dries up again. Corn was testing 24% and running over 200bpa. |

Oh, yeh, DRIVE where you hit that ???---tires always find those things--NOT with a 4 wheeleer--pick-up--get the most out of the bang. westmo--all I can say is damn luck anyway.
We did get some beans cut again yesterday---ran until they were NOT coming in real good---70% humidity at the house---and running a JD--anyone who eveer ran a JD knows it was designed for DRY conditions. With all the problems mentioned, I won't mention any of mine---other than got in the semi to head home, after parking it in the field after dark with lights----NO friggin head lights---called a neighbor to take me home--(Marilyn had a quilters meeting--we have priorities)-- FOGGY this morning--doesn't look good with the forecast...
Stay safe morning--
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllll I am guessin' that this thread is proof that "misery loves company". Seems that there are lots of problems out there. We don't wish troubles on others but when we see that others also have their struggles, we don't feel like we are the "onliest" ones.
I had tried to fix the fuel guage leak by-
Pumping fuel back down from the tank
Removing the guage
Cleaned the plastic tank and metal guage surface with laquer thinner. Got a new thin black rubber (neopreme? gasket from Deere). The durned thing had to be stretched to fit like the old one soooooo I cleaned the old one and used it,
put a thin coat of gasket goop (fuel resistant on the label) on all surfaces,
let them dry a bit,
assembled all tight
put more goop around the guage
let all cure for 1 day
It again started leaking when it is full in about 2 days.
Dennis- I am taking your advice and running it without filling the tank until I have a long rainout.
Deere ordered new gaskets to choose from. Mechanic said NO gasket goop. Assemble the parts dry????????
Looks to me like the problems are 1)the rubber gasket is very thin
2) the top of the plastic fuel tank is wavy and has to mate with a round metal disc (the guage)
3) there are threaded inserts in the plastic tank that hold the screws- 2 or 3 may have moved
Any thoughts on how you would fix it?????

Wednesday night I tried that- "I will quit when I run out of wagons" (or something breaks or it gets too tough). They kept 'em empty until the field was done at 2- 2:30 AM.

Jabber, not familiar with the John Deere tank. You said 2-3 inserts were moved. Do you mean gone? Is there like 5-6 little screws that hold the gauge in? Can you replace the inserts? Do the screws get loose? Maybe some locktight?
I guess if worse come to worse, I would try some self tapping screws but am afraid they would never hold in plastic. Might end up calling the junk yard in search of a different tank.

Hey Jabby, Get a RED combine...problem solved!
Ran beans yesterday until we got the field done at 7PM. They made 56 (50 would be average for that farm). Ran, rain, rain all morning.
We are going to start shelling corn Saturday.

I am going to brag for a second. I am on RFD TV / The Successfull Farming edition of the Machinery Show. It will air on the 23rd and the 25th. The interview is on our shop. They are supposed to come back and do another interview on our family along with my brother-in-law.

tim, You can tell Laura Potter she can still KMA---from the ordeal with her leftist website community and my getting "barred" from posting, after posting a political joke. It will be fun to watch--was this the shop you had your area agwebers together in? If you get time slots please post them--(will it be in the SF segments?) |

Tim, something is wrong reading your post. I'm not sure what it is, but it could be the combination of your name and Successful used in the same sentence!
I'm going to paruse the web and see if I can Google for some SF teasers promoting your appearance on the show. I'm sure I can find something to share this evening. |

| Timmy - The IRS probably will want to come out and look at your shop also. You know there are a few things you do not do in this world. One is never call in to the Farm Show at noon and broadcast how well your crops are doing and then file a federal crop claim; and second is not maintain a low profile in this world, because everyone wants to take a shot at a movie star. lol. Dennis: Yes, same building. We are very proud of it. I haven't met anyone that hasn't liked it yet.
DB: I said shop. Has nothing to do with Success...Just the shop.
Faust: You will get to see first hand one of my 1086's. 1 of things they wanted to come back and talk to us about is how we farm what we do with old equipment. The new CIH tractor you see is my wife's and we only paid $12,500 for it!
