Do you remember those "mudding" videos Faust put up of combines on YouTube.....that's what my harvesting today looked like. I'm cutting ruts to the rear axle on my 4WD rears....doing the old crabwalk and steering with the brakes.....luckily the corn is all standing up and you can hit it at about any angle and it is going in the head....have cut several hundred feet sidweways taking 8 rows with a 6 row head.....we're in the 4-7" target for tomorrow night thru Sat....this sucks...but yes, it is better than cancer or any of that other stuff mentioned....I'm tryin not to get the blood pressure going out of control.....quit at 8:30 - I was looking like an accident getting ready to happen...hired help had an emergency so I was solo....driving combine, auger cart and two semis.....(I'm too old for this crap.
ADM is bending us over again....upped their drying rate by another 1.5 cents/point....they know they have everyone by the balls now...and it's time for them to put the big weenie to us.
I'm going to start dumping 23% corn into my empty bins with fans just to keep running until I can free up dryer.....I'm thinking January for bean harvest if we're lucky....only 1/2 done with corn...
Take care. |

Well, I am dumping beans right now into one of my older bins that has a slow-dryer, can't remember the last time I had to dry beans like this. As you say, we are screwed. |

ADM is hosing us big time. They say that their FM is too high with drying the wet corn. The truth of the matter is that the poor qulaity corn in the Delta is sitting in storage and can't make grade for export...so they've decided to phuck us to make up for their problems elsewhere.
Starting tomorrow, I'm putting all the corn in the bins....put the big fans on until I can empty my drying bins. This sucks. My corn has no disease, no ear rot, and has kernels as big as your fingernails....so that FM bullsh!t doesn't hunt with me. A_holes....we accommodate them by bringing in corn wet early so they could get their railcars filled and now they discard us like a cheap wh0re.
Processors are paying a premium for high quality corn in the south...but they can't find any.....Get the SuperLube out boys...you're going to need it. |

| db I don't know how you are doing it! We are doing the same dance, crab walking on the rows with the rear tires spinning and we are fighting for every foot of forward movement. In the next two days we are under the gun again with rainfall amounts anywhere from 2 to 5 inches which is unbelievable for this time of year. Corn planted on June 2 will not drop under 24% and the lines for the dryers are long. In short I am done for awhile, I have crop insurance and it will either get better or it can stay in the darn field. We have no winter wheat planted, and unless you can seed it with an airplane we will have none this year. Most likely will take prevented planting on it as well. The last time I mudded like this was in 1984 and it took over five years for the rut damage to be corrected. Also had filings run out of the combine transmission after that season. Good luck gang but be careful not to push too hard as the results can be fatal. This too shall pass.... |

My biggest problem with the mud is that I can't keep my forward momentum and speed up because of the yields.....When you get 220 bu 24% corn humping through the Green POS and @ 3.5 mph and fighting the mud at the same time, we just don't have the power and then engine rpms drop below the warning buzzer threshold....(It's easier to keep on the row and in a straight line at higher speeds, but when you slow it down, you really start sinking in.
This is non gmo corn sprayed with fungicide, the stalks are pretty rank and juicy and all the foliage is on the plant, which is damp...making it pull even harder.
I'm heading to the field now....looks like rain already near St. Louis. My friend's new Case IH with 12 row head isn't faring much better in the muddy conditions....
If we get the rain they're forcasting.....it will get interesting to say the least....What's that saying - Cheer up, things could be worse...so I cheered up, and sure enough, things got worse.
Later. |

ICF: I don't know about the corn moisture, but I think we have some in the low 20's. Any volunteers to put on the Hydraulic drive belt on a 1666 combine?
It's raining and thundering here now. The radar is really ugly if you are looking for dry. |

| Only 32 acres of soybeans to go, but of course, I got rained out. Hell, its better than snow I guess. I'll have to admit, these are the best yielding soybeans I have ever had though. I am in Central MN and and yielding mid 50's. I'm keeping up with you southern boys, though I don't much disease or aphid pressure up here like you confederates. |

Thanks, mine is still around 26-28. Quit combining around 3 this morning here and raining now. Not pretty on radar. I volunteer my wife to help on your belt, however she probably requires more maintance than your 1666 and alot more cash for spare parts.

150 acres of beans to go, problem is they won't be ready for another two weeks or longer with this drying weather. the ones i looked at (frosted) will have yellow beans. as for corn 32 acres, but we haven't started yet. we haven't made any ruts yet, i'm sure we will get our chance. once you guys fill up the elevators we will have to leave ours out in the field. i can see it coming but all i can do is exercise. |

3020: I am glad you are getting along good with the rotor. Maybe next year I will sell you a combine to fit around that rotor?
Bins: I am fine...Just had a momment. Honestly I have never experienced a fall like this. I am executing a Plan B now (buying another tractor and another auger cart today). Starting a burner on a bin yesterday. Ordered 2 more bin heaters yesterday. Calling Obermeye Young today to see if they can get a 600bph dryer going that hasn't been used for 5-7 years.
ECI: Life has always been very good to me. I am alloud to get frustrated from time to time :)
As I always say.........

My crop insurance guy came out and looked out our newly rented grain facility and said that if you have high mold count to call your agent! It is covered as a crop loss. So, if you see you have a problem...you better call because they have to pull the samples and send them to a Federal licenced inspector for a grade. Well worth the time to call!

I haven't got a full week in for the last month. Most of the wheat around here went in early but, I've seen a few rigs sit a week then finish. They went all night. There's a big 435 stieger with field cultivator sitting just sitting in the same spot for 3 weeks can't move and I think this is prime time for that rig.
Saw one green Machine going east of Perry last evening some dust rolling. That is about the only corn I've seen taken out around here. Some has gone into wet grinding piles.
Rain again last night and call for rain all day so I won't even go up today. Think I'll put a counter top and sink in for a couple and return a call for a guy that wants some tile work done.
If you can get your corn out I can get this simple huge old two story house with 12:12 pitch and 5 gable roof a whole new outer shell including roof, doors soffit, fascia, window wrap and siding.
Stay safe my crew and I almost got wiped out by a guy rushing to move cattle with a goose neck and dulley coming around a corner too fast on the wrong side. I took the ditch. Slow down and be safe when you get there it'll get done. Be safe.

| Raining here again today, started misting last night at about 8pm, remarkably that coincided with my decision to end my fourth day of the fall on the combine. Yields are very good, conditions are terrible, I estimate about 10% of the soybeans in my immediate area have been combined, and 30% of the corn. There are no dryers here, just fans, my corn is still running over 20%. I expect to be harvesting well into December. The bright side is according to the weatherman after today we are supposed to get a big window of good weather, maybe the biggest of the entire year. |

| Iowa55, when I replaced the hyd. drive belt on my `1480 the first time, I figured it was because it was old. The second time I replaced it a couple years later, I was wondering why it failed so soon. When I replaced the one on my 1680 this summer in the middle of wheat harvest, I decided it was because I engaged the bin unloader at a high rpm instead of throttling back to engage it. I decided that from now on, since that belt powers the unloader auger drive belt, I'm just going to change it every other year before harvest so I hopefully don't have to do it in the middle of harvest. |
