harvesting is ramping up around here....

my dog, shark, brought an ear up this morning, he's 90% done. Might go open up another "field" after this one. He hasn't picked a small ear yet this year. I'm hoping its because there isn't any to be had!

Nongmo beans beating RRs around here by 3-7 bushel.

Neighbors april planted 200 acre corn field filled 50,000 bushel bin. Exciting stuff if we ever get to harvest again.

We had a loss here too this week. Farmer named Dan Ehlerding was killed transporting soybeans to the elevator. Looked like to me he got off the road, fought to get back on, then hit a small culvert. He was a nice guy and hard worker who loved farming. He will be missed.

RCR,
My prayers go out to the family.

I'll think of him every time I take grain down Stone Rd. to Melvin.

Am I correct that his dad was a vet? I remember Doc. Ehlerding from when I was 8-10 yrs old castrating and vaccienating pigs.

You ought to see this-the suns out!!It sure is pretty shining off the flooded fields. We ended up with 5.8 inches here and the creeks are out everywhere.I rented a bottom field for the first time this year and if it weren't for the few beantops sticking up we could ski out there.I bet they'll cut nice. Sludgeman I am just a little north of you in Audrain Co.You got some of my money last week when my son ran through your corn maze.LOL I have 400 acres in the field and he drove 30 minutes to pay to take his girlfriend for a walk. What a country!

JD,

we probably meet on that road more than you think. took 20 loads down it this past week. i cruise 40-45 loaded. slow down even more if i meet a big truck. i think the chip and seal makes it even nastier.

RCR,
Really sorry to hear about the family and community loss
of a life. This time of year, it really hits home, with
many of our loss of loved ones in the same time frame.

It is 26 degrees with freezing mist, blacktops seem ok,
but the county rocked roads are a hazard--can get from
0 to 60 in under 5 seconds with the ole Bronco--then it
moves forward and sideways...yeha..

There is ice on the trees and grass 25 mi. West of Dodge City, Ks. this morning. It was 26* here at 11:30 a.m. this morning. There will not be any harvest here today. Most of the beans are harvested but there is still a lot of corn and milo to be harvested.

natty-
We are in Rooks Co. Kansass, 60 miles NW of Hays, America, I-70

Marilyn saw a low of 25 this morning, ice was on all the
cat walks, and of course the vehicles parked outside are
still covered---has just warmed to 32...might make it to
the oldest grand daughter's birthday party yet.

12 years ago, I had just slugged the combine with a bunch of
damp weeds---trying to finish the corn harvest--Marilyn called,
and wanted to go see our new grand daughter---just born, about
this time of day. (got the slug out 2 days later) Party time!!

Hey guys we here in Southern Ky have little corn harvested(where it was not replanted %75...where replanted %10)...and what is in is going to a dryer, which many here do not have.We are now seeing some mold and sprouts in the husk(1st time ever to see or hear of it).As for soybeans....well the full season beans are being harvested some but poor yields and no double crop are in yet and there are a lot of green beans and pods...a ways off I'd say.

natty,
Back from the b-day party--her name is actually Dene', her
mom and grandmother didn't want her to have to pay to many
dues with a name to close to g-pa's.

A landlord sent pictures from Estes Park yesterday--even their
black lab wasn't smiling with the snow coming down there, I'd
already told one in Colorado Springs to keep the snow, we didn't
need it, but they didn't listen very well!

We haven't gotten any snow--but still in the forecast
for the coming week....I wonder if faust knows if "we"
can get PP on wheat 2 years in a row--and tight wad me,
I lowered the % coverage and plan on wheat--with the price
outlook, still don't care if I get any planted, but a
couple landlords would just NOT understand if they didn't
have wheat on a farm in Kansass. The growing wheat in the
spring does make good cover for pheasant nesting.
