I am surprised that there has been no mention of mould
in corn. mould is rampant in my area e-central SD.
Scale man at the elevator showed me several samples
of soybeans affected they were ugly. I hand shelled a
sample of corn for moisture about three weeks ago it was
30% with no mould now as of yesterday I could find no ears
that didn't show some green mould, generally have to break
the cob to see it

We shelled some april planted corn that had 1/2 % diplodia, (cob rot) You need to shell that corn that has that mold as early as you can to stop the damage from getting worse. We had neighbors with 15% damage. There is all kinds of mold out there and gettin it out of the field as fast as you can is the problem. Our corn was 26% moisture when we started and it takes a long time to dry that sh!t We are finding with the bigger kernals 26% is like 28% corn to dry.
It's expensive either way: 1. letting the mold grow while you wait for it too dry in the field or 2. drying the corn at a higher moisture to stop the damage from getting worse. The discounts are high and elevators may not even take it. That's the worst case senerio. Good luck.

We also have diplodia. Don't know what % as we are putting it in the bin. That is what I am doing right now, waiting for the wet bin to empty. Yesterday we got into some 24% corn. 0 diplodia. Still have the dryer set on 40% but at least it is coming out dry.

Gloopus, I would get the stuff in as fast as possible.

Here in SE MN I've got blue eye mold on nearly all ears. My corn is just over 30 %. Some just came in to the local elevator at 40%!

the local elevator here is docking the crap out of corn. Some 30 percent damage for mold on it and it was dry. They told him not to bring any more in. This is just the start of it most people just starting corn here its slow to dry 30 plus corn. Some runing it through the dryer twice other wise it discolors it to much.
